Compare and Contrast 

Patrick Henry, 1775:
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), 2005:
None of your civil liberties matter much after you’re dead.

Update: For the record, I did not steal the idea for this post from Russ Feingold, or even from Taegan Goddard. I simply have a stunning grasp of the obvious.
