But torture is a matter of principle to this administration, and it looks like the White House is going to pull out all the stops (and maybe a few fingernails) to preserve in full the executive branch's God-given authority to violate the Geneva Convention and the International Convention Against Torture.
Unfortunately, that is no exaggeration. Torture is a matter of principle for these people, much as evisceration of the Fourth Amendment and contempt for international law are matters of principle. Or, if not principle, exactly, then at least "necessary and proper" in the context of our great holy crusade. You see, when your cause is just and God is on your side, the only operative principle is winning - even if it means losing your soul.
