Remember Abu Ghraib?

So, everyone with half a brain (thus excluding most of the White House press corps) immediately concluded that the Naked Emperor rushed his announcement of the nomination of John "Dread Pirate" Roberts to take some of the heat off Turd Blossom. Turns out, he needn't have bothered - it looks likely that, after tomorrow, Bush's Brain [sic] will be effectively bumped from the front page for a while:
As part of the ongoing FOIA litigation on behalf of the ACLU and the Center for Constitutional Rights, a whole slew of the unreleased photographs and videos from Abu Ghraib are set to be released on Friday. These are the photographs and videos that were shown to the closed session of Congress, which reportedly include videos and photographs of the rape of detainees, including the rape of a male minor being held at the facility.

You will recall that Sy Hersh told us this would be coming. If a few desecrated Korans led to riots, imagine what these videos will do.

Update July 22, 2005: Well, the administration managed to put this particular demon back into Pandora's box, for the time being anyway, by means of a fancy bit of lawyering. Read the details here - even for these guys, this is an especially repugnant move.
