Huh?

The Federalist Society is a perfectly reputable organization. Granted, I would never want to be a member, but so what? It's not like the Federalist Society is the moral equivalent of the KKK or something - it's just a group of lawyers who share a set of political beliefs which, although I may find them disagreeable, are well within what passes for the mainstream these days.

So why is it that Supreme Court nominee John "Dread Pirate" Roberts feels compelled to lie about his membership in the Federalist Society?

By the way - are we sure that John Roberts is not the same guy as Robert John, who had hits in the '70's with "Sad Eyes" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight?" I'm asking because I never saw them at a Federalisty Society meeting together. It would be irresponsible not to speculate.
