Depopulating the 100 Acre Wood

Yesterday, I mentioned that Paul Winchell, the voice of Tigger, had died. Today brings the sad news that he is joined by John Fiedler, the voice of Piglet.

In addition to voicing Christopher Robin's favorite neurotic, Fiedler also appeared in a crucial role in one of my favorite films of all time, 12 Angry Men, and as the evil Mr. Hengist in episode 36 of the original Star Trek series, "Wolf In the Fold" - but, for my money, the role he was born to play was the mousy Mr. Peterson on The Bob Newhart Show.

As the CNN obit cited above says, "[h]e performed in supporting roles alongside Sidney Poitier on Broadway, John Wayne in Hollywood and Bob Newhart on television." He may not have achieved greatness, exactly, but he always seemed to be in the neighborhood. John Fiedler was 80 when he died.
